Rajo Laurel is one of the most popular young designers in the Philippines recognized mainly for his talent in creating timeless designs that appeal to women of all ages. His highly creative yet very wearable designs and his innovative marketing skills have catapulted him to the top of the Philippine fashion industry hierarchy.
RAJO's love affair with fashion began at the early age of 11. It led him to study the art at the famed Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and later undergo further studies at the prestigious Central St. Martin’s in London. As a young designer, he was awarded Air France’s Young Designer of the Year (1994) Most Promising Designer of the Year (1996) and The Loop’s (Editor’s Choice Award), Favorite Designer (1998). He has also won awards at the ASEAN Young Designers Competition (Singapore, 1993), the Smirnoff Fashion Design Awards Philippines, 1995) and the Asia Collection “ Makuhari Grand Prix ‘97” ( Japan, 1997). He has staged several major galas most notable of which were his daring Optical Illusions show (Philippines, 2001) which introduced Philippine fashion consciousness to the avant-garde, his Habi show (Philippines, 2004) held at the residence of the British Ambassador to the Philippines which showcased the best of the Philippines’ textiles and a Premier Collection created specially for the Young President’s Organization Gala held at the Araneta Coliseum (Philippines, 2005). He has been invited to join group shows and exhibitions such as the Philippine Centennial Show (Sydney, 1997), Saks Fifth Avenue Bridal Exhibition (New York, 2001) and the Ties That Bind; Shanghai-Philippines Expositions (Shanghai, 2003) In 2004 and 2005. Rajo was chosen to represent the Philippines in the KL Fashion Week held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Rajo Laurel is the President and Creative Director of Laurel et Ross.
